                                    SRMIST Celebrates International Students%u2019 Day 4.0, Showcasing Global Diversity and Academic ExcellenceSTAFF WRITERSRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, celebrated International Students%u2019 Day 4.0 on February 7, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to fostering multicultural harmony, global engagement, and inclusive academic excellence. The event brought together international and domestic students, faculty members, and distinguished dignitaries to celebrate the university%u2019s vibrant global community.The programme was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Ashok Vardhan Shetty, Former IAS Officer. The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST; Prof. Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST; and Dr. C. G. Anupama, Assistant Director, Directorate of International Relations.Welcoming the gathering, Dr. C. G. Anupama highlighted the importance of International Students%u2019 Day as a platform that celebrates cultural diversity and strengthens global partnerships. She emphasized the university%u2019s continued efforts to create an inclusive learning environment that supports students from diverse nationalities and academic backgrounds.Addressing the audience, Prof. Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan reflected on SRMIST%u2019s steady progress in global engagement and academic collaboration, noting that the institution%u2019s academic standards are comparable with leading international universities. He emphasized that diversity%u2014both academic and cultural%u2014plays a crucial role in shaping globally competent graduates and highlighted the university%u2019s continued focus on international partnerships, student mobility initiatives, and interdisciplinary learning. In his keynote address, Mr. Ashok Vardhan Shetty commended the university for organizing a meaningful celebration dedicated to multicultural harmony and global inclusivity. SRMIST and WCSC Launch Village Service Programme at Anjur VillageSTAFF WRITERUnder the Government of India%u2019s flagship Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), in collaboration with the World Community Service Centre (WCSC), inaugurated the Village Service Programme (VSP) at Anjur Village, an adopted village of SRMIST.The inaugural function was held at the Anjur Village Community Hall and was presided over by Dr. C. Muthamizchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST. In his presidential address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of skill development, particularly in training village students and youth in specialized skills aligned with their interests, enabling them to earn sustainable livelihoods and improve their economic well-being.The programme featured a special address by Mr. Senthur Paari, President, Exnora International Foundation, who highlighted the significance of community participation, environmental responsibility, and collective action in achieving sustainable village development. Mr. Muruganatham, Director, WCSC%u2013VSP, presented an overview of the World Community Service Centre %u2013 Village Service Programme and explained how the initiative would benefit villagers through holistic development, health awareness, value-based living, and continuous community support.Addressing the gathering, Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL) & Nodal Officer %u2013 Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, SRMIST, stated that SRMIST has adopted 12 villages under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme and has been consistently implementing initiatives in the areas of education, healthcare, skill development, and social welfare. He emphasized that Anjur Village is one of the adopted villages and that its development is both a privilege and a responsibility for the institution.With the support of WCSC, a Village Service Centre has been established at Anjur Village based on the ideals of Vethathiri Maharishi, offering free Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY) training and value-based programmes for seven months. As part of livelihood support, SRMIST has sponsored tailoring training with five tailoring machines, with separate male and female trainers residing in the village to ensure inclusive and continuous training.The programme also featured a folk art performance by Mugilkalaikuzhu, Erode, and witnessed active participation from village panchayat representatives, local residents, SRMIST faculty members, students, WCSC representatives, and media personnel.2026 | Spectrum | Volume 19 Number 2 7
