STAFF WRITERThe Department of Chemistry, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, inaugurated the International Conference on Green Hydrogen and Energy Technology (ICGHET 2026) on January 8, 2026. The three-day international conference, scheduled to continue until January 10, 2026, has brought together leading researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and students from across the globe to deliberate on sustainable energy solutions.Delivering the inaugural address, Dr P. Thanikaivelan, Director, CSIR%u2013Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai, emphasised the need for sustainabilitydriven research in the clean energy sector. He stated that researchers working in hydrogen production and storage must prioritise sustainable methods, ensuring that technological progress does not compromise environmental responsibility. ICGHET 2026 is being organised around the theme %u201cGreen Hydrogen and Integrated Energy Technologies for a Sustainable and Decarbonized Future.%u201d The conference is held in association with The Electrochemical Society of India, ECS IIT Madras Student Chapter, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, National Cheng Kung University, Chulalongkorn University, and Universit%u00e9 de Montpellier, underscoring its strong international and interdisciplinary character.Addressing the gathering, Dr Leenus Jesu Martin M, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRMIST, highlighted the pivotal role of electrochemistry in enabling sustainable and self-reliant energy technologies. The conference also features Dr Harshad Velankar, Chief Scientific Officer, altM, Bengaluru, as Guest of Honour, along with eminent international experts including Prof. Yair Ein-Eli, Technion %u2013 Israel Institute of Technology, and Prof. Soorathep Kheawhom, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, who are sharing insights on global advancements in electrochemical energy systems and sustainable technologies.Speaking on the vision of the conference, Dr T. Maiyalagan, Research Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, SRMIST, and Convener, ICGHET 2026, noted that the conference aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, promote innovation-driven research, and create meaningful engagement between young researchers and globally recognised scientists, while opening avenues for international partnerships and funding opportunities.Researchers Must Prioritise Sustainable Methods in Hydrogen Production and Storage, Says Dr P. Leenus J. Martin, Dean, College of Engineering and Technology, SRMIST; Dr. S. Ponnuswamy, Registrar, SRMIST. In his address, Mr. Dinesh Chauhan highlighted CORE Diagnostics%u2019 global presence, with operations across 11 countries and throughout India. He spoke about the organization%u2019s expertise in cancer diagnostics, noting that the company manages nearly 1,000 oncology cases daily using advanced next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. He emphasized the growing importance of genetics and genetic counseling in modern healthcare and stressed the need for increased cancer awareness, particularly regular cervical cancer screening for early detection and prevention.SRMIST Signs MoU with CORE Diagnostics to Advance Genetic Diagnostics and ResearchSRMIST Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy, along with Mr. Dinesh Chauhan, CEO, CORE Diagnostics during the MoU signed between SRMIST and CORE Diagnostics.STAFF WRITERS t u d e n t s f r o m t h e Department of Mathe matics and Statistics at SRM Faculty of Science and Humanities undertook an insightful industrial visit to the Regional Meteorological Centre, functioning under the India Meteorological Department, in Nungam bakkam. The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to modern weather forecasting techniques, climate data analysis, and the use of advanced meteorological SRMIST Students Explore Meteorology at Regional Meteorological Centreinstruments. It served as an important platform to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications in the field of meteorology.During the session, students gained valuable insights into how mathematical modelling and statistical tools play a crucial role in weather prediction, climate studies, and disaster preparedness. The interactive experience enabled them to better understand the practical relevance of their academic learning. The conference is held in association with The Electrochemical Society of India, ECS IIT Madras Student Chapter, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, National Cheng Kung University, Chulalongkorn University, and Universit%u00e9 de Montpellier2026 | Spectrum | Volume 19 Number 2 19
