SRMIST Organises World Record Event with 3,032 Participants to Celebrate 150 Years of Vande MataramSTAFF WRITERThe Department of Computational Intelligence, School of Computing, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), announces a significant student achievement as Team AgniShakti secured Second Place at the Code Kalari %u2013 National Level 24-Hour Hackathon, held at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Kottayam, from 17 to 18 January 2026. The team was awarded a cash prize of ` 50,000 INR in recognition of their outstanding performance.The competition witnessed participation from student teams across the country, challenging them to design innovative, real-time solutions within an intense 24-hour timeframe. Team AgniShakti stood out for their project titled %u201cAI Automation Fire Safety,%u201d an AI-driven automation solution aimed at enhancing fire safety systems. The project addressed a critical real-world challenge by integrating artificial intelligence to improve early detection, response efficiency, and safety management, demonstrating strong technical depth and practical relevance. The team comprised Shudhanshu Kumar, Anurag Anand, Prakash Awasthi, and Hardik, whose collaborative efforts, problem-solving abilities, and technical expertise contributed to the project%u2019s success. Their achievement reflects the strong academic foundation and innovation-driven learning environment fostered at SRMIST. The team received valuable guidance and mentorship from the department%u2019s leadership and faculty. The Advisory Committee included Dr. Revathi Venkataraman, Chairperson, School of Computing, SRMIST; Dr. C. Lakshmi, Associate Chairperson, School of Computing, SRMIST; and Dr. Annie Uthra, Head of the Department, CINTEL, School of Computing, SRMIST. Academic support was provided by Dr. B. Hariharan, Associate Professor, and Dr. C. Paarivendhar.As part of the attempt, 3,032 participants, comprising students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff, came together to form the Largest Human Formation Depicting %u201cVANDE MATARAM.%u201d Participants were dressed in tricolour shades, symbolising unity and national identity. The world record attempt was held on 06 January 2026, in the presence of representatives from the World Record Union.Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST said, %u201cThis world record attempt reflects the collective effort of the SRMIST community. By coming together for this formation, we have marked a moment that reflects discipline, participation, and shared responsibility in commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram.%u201dSRMIST Career Centre Partners with Volvo Group India to Establish Centre of Excellence in Virtual Vehicle TechnologiesSTAFF WRITERThe Career Centre of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Volvo Group India to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Virtual Vehicle Technologies at the Kattankulathur campus. The MoU was signed in the presence of senior representatives from Volvo Group India, including Mr. G. V. Rao, Director%u2013CSR, Dr. Ranjith, Head%u2013Talent Acquisition, Dr.Ponusamy Registrar SRMIST and members of the talent acquisition team. Dr. N. Venkata Shastry, Director, Career Centre, SRMIST, noted that the collaboration is the result of over two years of continuous engagement through faculty development, student skill programmes, and global exposure initiatives. The CoE aims to enhance industry%u2013academia collaboration by offering hands-on training in virtual vehicle technologies, thereby aligning academic learning with industry needs. Mr. G. V. Rao highlighted that the initiative reflects Volvo Group%u2019s commitment to skill development and employability, with plans to benefit over 1,000 students in the first year.
