                                    STAFF WRITERChennai, August 4, 2025 %u2013 The Centre for Innovation and Collaboration (CiC) at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) continues to make significant strides in fostering innovation and research. Inaugurated by the Honourable Vice Chancellor on March 6, 2025, CiC SRM IST has quickly become a hub for research and development, startups, and the READY program.Following the inauguration, proposals were invited from faculty members and students via Google Forms. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with numerous submissions across diverse domains. To assess the potential of these ideas, an offline evaluation session was conducted at CiC on April 29 and 30, 2025. The evaluation was conducted in the presence of expert panelists from IHFC (I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics), IIT Delhi.After multiple rounds of rigorous screening and evaluation, IHFC IIT Delhi has announced the final list of shortlisted project proposals under the R&D category. A total funding amount of `40 lakhs has been approved for three standout projects:%u2022 Dr. T. Jayanthi %u2013 Biomedical%u2022 Dr. Muthu %u2013 Biotechnology%u2022 Dr. Carunaiselvane %u2013 AutomobileAs a mentor, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to these outstanding innovators. P. Ganesan Auditorium, Chennai. The event marked the beginning of an inspiring academic journey for over 2,600 newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students.The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST; Prof. A. Vinay Kumar, Pro Vice-Chancellor (FSH, Management, Law); Dr. A. Duraisamy, Dean, Faculty of Science and Humanities; and Dr. Albert Antony Raj S, Deputy Dean, FSH. The Chief Guest, Lt. Gen. Michael A.J. Fernandez, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, delivered a powerful keynote address that inspired students to lead with purpose, discipline, and curiosity.In his welcome address, Dr. A. Duraisamy highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the faculty, which offers 33 undergraduate and 23 postgraduate programs spanning Computer Science, Media Studies, Biotechnology, Commerce, Psychology, Economics, and Defence Studies. He emphasized SRMIST%u2019s commitment to holistic, career-oriented education that prepares students for global challenges.Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, in his presidential address, encouraged students to explore learning beyond academics. %u201cWhile your CGPA matters, what truly shapes you is what you learn outside the classroom,%u201d he remarked. Prof. Vinay Kumar emphasized the adoption of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting 18 minor programmes that promote multidisciplinary learning and skill enhancement.Lt. Gen. Fernandez motivated students to stay focused, maintain discipline, and cultivate lifelong habits of curiosity and self-growth. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Albert Antony Raj S, followed by the National Anthem and an orientation session.
