SRMIST NSS Officers Join HSI & NSS Regional Directorate, GOI, New Delhi Roundtable on Plant-Based Sustainability & One HealthThe NSS Programme Officers from SRMIST Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, and Vadapalani%u2014Chennai actively participated in the roundtable discussion. The discussions helped them gain valuable insights into the impact of animal agriculture and the need for a shift towards Sustainable Food Systems, which in turn helped them move forward and further promote sustainability initiatives on their campuses.STAFF WRITERThe Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, successfully hosted the International Conference on Innovations in Life Sciences (ICILS%u201925), held in a hybrid format. This conference spanned around 3 days, dated 3rd, 4th, and 5th February 2025. The conference attracted 120 registrations and featured 10 esteemed technical speakers from India and abroad, providing a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and discussions on the latest advancements in life sciences.The conference kicked off with a Presidential Address by Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. A. Vinay Kumar, followed by an insightful Inaugural Address by Dr. Prathap Ganesh, Vice President %u2013 Quality Assurance, LifeCell International Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Ganesh discussed quality assurance and the latest developments in life sciences. Felicitations were presented by Dean Dr. A. Duraiswamy and Deputy Dean Dr. Albert Antony Raj, who emphasized the integration of science and technology in advancing the field.The first day featured three technical sessions focused on key areas: Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Postdoctoral Research Opportunities, and Patenting. Notable presentations included %u201cInnovation and Entrepreneurship: Role of DSIR, Government of India%u201d by Dr. P. Josthna and %u201cPatenting and Regulatory Requirements International Conference on Innovations in Life Sciences (ICILS%u201925) of Natural Products and Traditional Medicine %u2013 An Indian Perspective%u201d by Dr. L. Hariprasad.Day 2 continued with four engaging technical sessions. Dr. Rita M. Heuertz, Professor at Saint Louis University, USA, delivered a thought-provoking talk on Bacterial Biofilm and Its Role in Pathogenesis. A special session on Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells and Their Applications was conducted by Dr. U. R. Ezekiel, Professor of Clinical Health Sciences at St. Louis University, USA.Additional sessions included Innovations in Regenerative Medicine by Dr. P. Raghu Babu, Technical Director at Acadicell Innovations International Pvt. Ltd., and Therapeutic Applications of Exosomes by Dr. Ajith Kumar, Scientific Director at Acadicell Innovations International Pvt. Ltd.The final day of the conference featured three technical sessions. Dr. Vrushank Dave, Associate Professor at Moffitt Cancer Centre & USF %u2013 Morsani College of Medicine, USA, discussed Identifying Molecular Drivers of Lung Cancer for Precision Medicine. Dr. Nithyakalyani, Chief Scientist at Apollo Hospitals, presented Opportunities in the Field of Life Sciences. The concluding session, Modern Trends in Gene Editing in Microalgae for Commercial Purposes, was delivered by Dr. Sridharan Govindachary, Founder and CEO of Plant Innov, Montreal, Canada.The valedictory function was graced by Mr. Thangiah Immanuel, Managing Director of CEPHAS Medical Pvt. Ltd., MEPZ, who engaged with participants in an insightful discussion and shared valuable perspectives, marking a memorable conclusion to the conference.120 registrations from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. 80 abstracts submitted, with a strong response to the call for papers. 40 abstracts were selected for oral presentations. 20 abstracts were chosen for poster presentations. 60 abstracts were included in the official conference proceedings. Hybrid Presentation Format: All sessions were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges in both in-person and virtual formats. Award-Winning Presentations: Cash prizes, mementoes, and certificates were awarded to the top paper and poster presenters.
