                                    2025 | Spectrum | Volume 18 Number 4 15SRMIST conducts the 14th Research Day and 6th Dr. Paarivendhar Research ColloquiumSTAFF WRITERThe spirit of research and academic excellence took center stage at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, as the institution celebrated its 14th Research Day and the 6th edition of the Dr. Paarivendhar Research Colloquium (DPRC 2024) held on 21st April, 2025, with great enthusiasm and recognition. The event was graced by Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Honourable Founder Chancellor, SRMIST; Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice-Chancellor, SRMIST; and Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, Distinguished Professor at Savitribai Phule Pune University and Former Director General, CSIR %u2013 India. The celebration served as a platform to acknowledge and honour the exemplary research contributions made by students and faculty across disciplines. A total of 47 students and 32 faculty members were awarded gold medals and certificates, while 51 students and 4 faculty members received silver medals and certificates. In addition, 43 faculty members who had published in Nature-indexed journals were felicitated with mementos and certificates.Delivering the presidential address, Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar highlighted SRMIST%u2019s commitment to cultivating a researchdriven academic environment. %u201cWe take pride in being one of the first institutions in the country to dedicate a day to celebrate research. With India steadily advancing in global research rankings, patent filings, and innovation indices, our role as educators is more crucial than ever,%u201d he said. %u201cInnovation begins in the classroom %u2014 in curious minds that ask questions, explore possibilities, and challenge conventions. It is this spirit of inquiry that we must continue to foster.%u201d In his keynote address, Prof. Shekhar C. Mande spoke on the importance of nurturing young scientific minds: %u201cIndia has produced stalwarts like C. V. Raman and G. N. Ramachandran, who redefined the frontiers of science. If guided well, today%u2019s students have the potential to follow in their footsteps,%u201d he remarked. %u201cWith access to advanced tools and collaborative ecosystems, there has never been a more exciting time to be a researcher. The opportunities are immense, and the time to act is now.%u201dAs part of the celebrations, DPRC 2024 was inaugurated by Prof. Shekhar C. Mande. Organised by the Directorate of Research in collaboration with the Department of English and Foreign Languages, the colloquium will continue till April 23, 2025. The event offers a vibrant platform for scholars to present their research, engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, and contribute to the evolving landscape of knowledge.SRMIST Students Embrace Wellness in Lead-Up to International Yoga Day 2025STAFF WRITERThe vibrant campus of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) buzzed with energy and a sense of well-being today as the Directorate of Sports and the Department of Yoga, in collaboration with the esteemed Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, successfully hosted a Yoga Practical Session and Seminar. This initiative marked the beginning of a 60-day countdown to the globally celebrated International Day of Yoga, scheduled for June 21st, 2025.The morning began with an invigorating Yoga Practical Session over 530 enthusiastic students participated in the session, basking in the early morning sunshine while experiencing the rejuvenating benefits of yoga. The session was also streamed live, allowing even more members of the SRMIST community to partake in the wellness initiative.The spirit of well-being continued with an insightful Yoga Seminar, graced by the presence of the honorable Registrar of SRMIST, Dr. S. Ponnusamy, who inaugurated the event. The seminar featured enlightening talks by distinguished yoga experts: Dr. Prof. Elangovan, Dr. Valli, and Dr. Samudra. These eminent speakers shared their profound knowledge on the significance of yoga in fostering mental clarity, enhancing physical strength, and promoting overall well-being. Their words resonated deeply with the young audience, inspiring them to consider yoga as a valuable practice for both their personal and professional journeys.This successful event marks the beginning of SRMIST%u2019s preparations for International Day of Yoga 2025, setting a positive tone for further activities aimed at promoting the ancient practice of yoga and its myriad benefits within the university community.
