STAFF WRITERThe Second UBA Model Physiotherapy Centre took place on 29th January 2025 at the Panchayat Service Centre, Neelamangalam, Orathur. The event was graced by Dr. S. Subash, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, SRMIST, followed by Mr. & Mrs. Sundar, Panchayat President of Orathur, who served as the Chief Guests. The event featured a special address by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL), Nodal Officer UBA-SRMIST, and a presidential address by Prof. T.S. Veeragoudhaman, Dean, SRM College of Physiotherapy, SRMIST.The Chief Guest, accompanied by the Special Guest and dignitaries, initiated the ceremony by cutting the ribbon and lighting the traditional kuthuvilaku. This auspicious act was performed by the Chief Guests Dr. S. Subash and Mr. Sundar, Special Guest Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Prof. T.S. Veeragoudhaman, Principal Investigator Dr. K. Vadivelan, Co-Principal Investigators Dr. C. Balaji, Dr. P. Venkataraman, and Dr. M. Manikumar.Dr. K. Vadivelan delivered the opening speech, addressing the gathering and emphasizing the importance of this initiative. The Special Guest, Dr. V. Thirumurugan, followed with remarks on the significance of the UBA initiative and its benefits to the community. The Chief Guests, Dr. S. Subash and Mr. Sundar, also shared words of encouragement and support for SRM%u2019s efforts.The initiatives and efforts of SRM and child development speech were led by Dean college of Physiotherapy and Dr. C.Balaji.The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. P. Following the formal proceedings, cakes were Second UBA Model Physiotherapy Centre opend at Orathur villageOur Power, Our Planet%u2019: SRMIST Hosts Solar Lamp Training on Earth Day 2025STAFF WRITERAs part of the World Earth Day 2025 celebrations, a Hands-on Training Program on Solar Study Lamp Assembly was successfully conducted on April 22, 2025, under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST). Organized in collaboration with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and the SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, the event aimed to promote awareness of renewable energy and equip rural communities with practical technical skills.Held at the SRM College of Agricultural Sciences campus, the training program drew enthusiastic participation from school students, faculty members, and residents of SRMIST%u2019s UBA-adopted villages%u2014Minnal Chithamur, Baburayanpettai, and Keezhathivakkam.The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Anbarasan A., SRM Agri Adopted Villages Overall Coordinator, who highlighted the growing relevance of renewable energy in the current era. He emphasized the role of educational institutions in advancing sustainability and fostering innovation and self-reliance in rural communities.The event was presided over by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer, UBA-SRMIST. In his address, he emphasized the Earth Day 2025 theme %u2013 %u201cOur Power, Our Planet%u201d, underscoring the importance of adopting renewable energy sources such as solar power. He reiterated how distributed to the children and parents present. The event saw the participation of 20 children, aged 0%u20136 years, along with their parents, including three special children with identified disabilities. Initial assessments and treatments were conducted by Ph.D. scholars Mr. J R Abishek and Ms. M. Manju Bashini, as well as postgraduate students in paediatrics: Mr. E. Rajajarishi, Ms. S. Shamilee, Ms. K. Sushmitha, and Ms. S. Thabitha Janet.initiatives like these play a vital role in addressing energy disparities and empowering local communities.An insightful keynote was delivered by Dr. Thirugnana Kumar S., Professor and Head, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, who spoke passionately about the global urgency to transition to green energy. He stressed that sustainability is not merely a technological shift, but a moral responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.The event was graced by Mr. Govindhasamy, Panchayat President of Keezhathivakkam, and Mr. C. Balaji, Panchayat President of Minnal Chithamur. Mr. Balaji delivered a thoughtful address, emphasizing the importance of nature conservation and the need for widespread adoption of clean energy in combating global warming. Participants were provided with individual solar lamp kits and guided through the entire assembly process by EEE department Associate Professors Dr. Geetha, Dr. Usha, and Mr. Saravanan, supported by Mr. Velmani (AME) and his team. The hands-on session focused on understanding key components such as photovoltaic panels, batteries, LED circuits, and switches, along with practical troubleshooting and safety practices.Each participant assembled their own solar study lamp and was encouraged to take it home for daily use%u2014applying their new knowledge in real-life situations and supporting both education and household lighting needs in an ecofriendly manner.The program concluded with a feedback session and certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the efforts and participation of all involved. A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. N.
