STAFF WRITERThe Faculty of Science and Humanities (FSH), in collaboration with the AntiDrug Committee of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Program on 25th August 2025 at 10:30 AM in the Seminar Hall, FSH Block-II. The program aimed to educate firstyear students and faculty members about the harmful effects of drug abuse while promoting a drug-free campus environment. Dr. Vinay Kumar inaugurated the program with a special address highlighting the severe consequences of drug abuse on students%u2019 health, academic growth, and personal development. He emphasized the responsibility of educational institutions in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. Reinforcing this message, Dr. Albert Antony Raj stressed the importance of a drug-free life and its impact on mental clarity, motivation, and career prospects.The sessions featured insightful contributions from experts. Dr. S. Senthil Selvan, Professor of Civil Engineering, explained the institutional measures for building a drug-free environment and encouraged studentled initiatives through campaigns, competitions, and peer support networks. The keynote guest, Mr. V. Ponramu, Retired Superintendent of Police, shared his expertise from the Narcotic Intelligence Bureau and Cybercrime Department. He detailed the physical, psychological, and social harms of drugs such as alcohol, cocaine, and LSD, while illustrating how experimentation can spiral into addiction and social decay. He advocated preventive strategies including early intervention, family and community support, and counselling.The program concluded with a pledge ceremony, where students and faculty committed to a drug-free lifestyle and to serving as ambassadors of awareness. The occasion commenced with the rendition of the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu. Dr. L. Sivakami, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, delivered a welcome address. This was followed by the felicitation address from Dr. Albert Antony Raj, Deputy Dean of the College of Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Mr. Amritasu Pal, a second-year B.Sc. Statistics student, presented a detailed overview of the Pi Club%u2019s activities for the academic year 2024%u20132025.The chief guest, Dr. T. Isaiarasi, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics at SRM Valliammai Engineering College, delivered an insightful address. She eloquently highlighted the practical applications of mathematics and statistics in solving real-world problems and encouraged students to consistently engage in problemsolving exercises to sharpen their analytical skills for everyday challenges.Subsequently, the office bearers of the Pi Club for the year 2025%u20132026 including the President, Vice President, Secretary, and other members were officially announced. Mr. E. Surya Aaditya, a student of III-B.Tech. CSE at SRM IST, has Won a Gold Medal and leading the Tamil Nadu team %u201cChennai Bull%u201d in the Equestrian Champions League %u2013 Season 1.Aalisha Naik Shines Silver at Ghana Grand Slam InternationalMs. Aalisha Naik, a student of II BBA, SRM IST, has won the Silver Medal in the Women%u2019s Singles category at the JE Wilson Ghana Grand Slam International Open, held at Borteyman St, Ghana, from 13th to 17th August 2025.20 2025 | Spectrum | Volume 19 Number 1
